I'm not kidding, the UPS guy drops off a package I've been waiting for with no contents, and the end has been opened. The shipping company on the return address that shipped it is called "Out of The Box" shipping. Have I been "punked"?

We’re you expecting something. If not I’d say you’ve been punked

Not unheard of. I’d contact the shipper and see if they’ll cover it; I believe a claim would have to come from their end.

Are you sure you didn't just order an empty box?

I like the “out of the box” thing

Kind of seems like a red flag

I’ve heard of people being shipped many different dud items (books, packing material, trash)

    Usually they give you something

Hope it’s a legitimate company, because if not what do you do?

    “I never received my goods!”
    Well we have record of.....

Yes I was expecting it. It had a tracking number and it showed that the package was delivered.

It is a legitimate company, I googled it. It is a shipping company the seller used on eBay for a sign I purchased.

I contacted the seller right away, he replied 3 days later saying he would refund me for the item cost, but not the $25 for shipping. The reason it was "lost" was his lousy packaging job.

Here's the big question. How do you prove you didn't receive the item and the package was empty? Take a picture of the open package?

Only 100% way as far as prevention would be to film it coming off the truck that way

It’s a pain in the butt this stuff happens, hopefully you’ll get it worked out

Who knows if the guy ever sent the sign and spent 5 bucks on shipping and makes 20 for nothing

I watch all the deliveries I can myself. That way I can refuse to accept one badly damaged ...or empty.

I used Paypal, not a credit card. Maybe they'll step in.

I saw the UPS guy set the box on the porch. By the time I got out there, he was taking off in his truck. A couple days later he delivered another package, and I showed him the empty package he delivered. He kind of shrugged, and more less said he thought it felt light, but delivered it anyways.

Please note the shipper is the one to have to claim for the damage or theft , contact the shipper .
UPS are horrid for their transportation methodology, and damage , they reimbursed me a Mac tower and 24 inch cinema monitor that was shipped through them and arrived so damaged they would not start up.

    contact the shipper

Thanks, that's what I'm trying to figure out. I contacted UPS, the seller, and also eBay. All three weren't any help. I contacted eBay and told them the whole story, and they sent me a reply "they ruled in my favor" and to return the item within 7 days for a full refund. They must have missed the part where I didn't receive the item, so I have no item to return.

Their next suggestion was to "get a Police Report", and send them the document. Do I just bring the empty box to the Police Station and tell them I got ripped off?

What did you tell eBay, that it was stolen? They may be thinking it was stolen off your porch. Just tell them you ordered a sign and got an empty box. It's not your job to figure out what happened. You got an empty box so you get your money back.

I have delivered a few empty packages over the years, but the ends were sealed, the shipper just forgot to pack it.

What blows my mind is that any shipper would leave an empty box and run away. Not only did the carrier leave the empty box, but the guy who loaded it into the truck did as well. Nobody in the chain thought anything about an open and empty box?
