It's a section marker for a galactic quadrant, probably installed by a Vogon constructor fleet. Something about an intergalactic bypass. There's a notice about it orbiting Alpha Centauri. Don't panic! Just keep your towel handy.

Three college friends got drunk one weekend and came to the conclusion that people are so stupid and gullible that they will ascribe significance to even the most random event. 'I bet if we made a big metal pillar, stuck it way out in the back of beyond, that people will start believing all kinds of crap about it. The one who's most outrageous prediction comes true gets a hundred bucks.'

    No one seems to believe...
It was mine. I left it there when it got too heavy to continue hiking with it in my pack.
If opened, you will find a foot long "sub" or "hoagie" or other named "manwitch"
I recall making it with dry salami and aged sharp cheese, so it is probably still good.
there is also about a quart of drinking water, drawn directly from a roadside faucet at what was then a Gulf service station on rt. 66.
The bag of Frito's corn chips is probably also still just fine.

But again, open it knowing it is MINE! Damnit. I still intend to claim my long lost hikers lunch.

    Seriously.
    Its mine.

    And I want it back!

    Touch the surface.
Bet its still cool to the touch.

Dont make me explain the secret to that...

    The transcription begins at 17:36:

Person 1 : " Look man, my wife says that thing has got to go. Now!"
Person 2 : "Dude, We just need a little more time."
Person 1 : "Neiman Marcus laughed at us, Sharper image said no, Even spencer gifts said no." We need to get it out of the garage."
Person 2 : "OK, let's take it over to that place in Utah where we got lost last year. Maybe some morons will think aliens made it.

    Transcription ends.

Rivets or screws on the side from that video. Pretty sure "advanced alien civilizations" would not use those to build a monolith. Looks like a cheap knockoff to fool the masses. "The Martians are coming! The Martians are coming!"

If it were in Japan, there would already be at least three vending machines.

Hmm, the riveting seems to be only sub-par and there are a lot of finger marks on the object. no windex at hand?
maybe it's a flight case for a chocolate bar?

That's simply a DeLorean shaving station for women.

I surprised no one's mentioned that yet

I hope they don't remove it - it will let all the air out of the earth.

It's probably been too well documented by now--esp by those direct overhead drone shots--to allow the classic prank in which one day it is noted that there is a 15-foot deep hole where the monolith was, and a 15-foot pile of dirt next to the hole, with the monolith nowhere in sight.
