I agreed with most (e.g., Clapton is overrated), disagreed with some (e.g., Beck is overrated), but found the knock on Chet Atkins to be fighting words.

    I don't think that's an unpopular opinion, I think that's just a fact :p

I find 'shred' repetitive and boring to listen to...
Still kinda wish I could do it though

It was unpopular with one of my teachers that thought he was the best white blues guitarist that ever lived.

I respectfully disagree but liked your post anyway just because I think the way you phrased it was awesome. Carry on, sir.

The guitar as phallic symbol. Interesting idea.

The sound of a Strat is in the cheapness of it's parts the fancier a Strat is the more pointless it is... just buy a Les Paul.

Jimmy Hendrix and Eric Clapton may be technically proficient but their music is mediocre at best.

People need to get over the 60s... it wasn't that good

(Good) metal is the modern equivalent to classical music.

If you can't make a $400 rig sing, then you aren't a guitarist, you're just a lawyer with too much money.

Jack White is a creative genius.

Rock is a young man's genre.

Too many male vocalists sing too high.

There's a lot of good music still being released.

A lot of blues players decided to play blues just so they wouldn't have to do something new.

Jazz musicians are what we should all aspire to become.

3 electrics in my house and they all have the 'S' word on the headstocks.

Heavy Metal needs to be played with humbuckers, using a Tele with single coils is just faking it.

    I never liked Clapton.

Jeff Beck? I can't even think of any of his tunes...

In fact, the only British blues band I like is ... The Stones. They morphed the genre into something unique.

The Beatles are horribly overrated. I can't believe elevators still play that junk.

Neil Young should stick to music, and leave the politics at home.

I never let politics influence my gear decisions (or any decisions, except when I'm at the polls).

Boutique relics are no excuse for a poor finishing job.

The electric guitar is a modular instrument that comprises the body, neck, pickups, hardware, pedals, amps etc, and the timber should be treated with the relative unimportance it deserves.

    1. I'm right.
    2. The more obsessed you are with "TONE", the more yours is predictable, bland and boringly unoriginal.
    3. Blues records have sounded tame and over produced since the early 70's.
    3. You are wrong.

    Thick necks are entirely under-rated.

    Low wind pickups are cool
    Overwound is nasty
You can't hear curly maple vrs just maple caps
Six string basses are just simply one to many
If your amp never goes above four, you have to much amp
It is perfectly ok to play above the fifth fret on a bass.
That's why there's other frets. 'Money notes' gimme a freaking break.
    'Weedelie weedelie' is seldom musical.

    1. Boutique saddles and bridge plates don't make any tangible improvement to tone.
    2. Joe Bonamassa overplays and is not a true bluesman.
    3. Led Zeppelin is overrated.
