They were singing this one in the halls of San Francisco recently.

You beat me to it with the Strawbs, so I'll have to offer this:

Oh geez, how could I forget. By the way, Billy Bragg has a great show. I've seen him twice and both times were a blast. I don't know what he's up to these days. Probably weeping :).

Billy Bragg - "Shirley" (Not exactly a union song, but what the hell)

Not exactly a union song, but it does have the phrase ". . . punch in, punch out, 8 hours, five days, sweat, pain, and agony, on Friday I'll get paid." It's enough to make you want to join a union.

Minutemen - "This Ain't No Picnic"

I don't think it's a round about way. Merle Travis wrote a lot about working people.

Having begun as a folkie back in the early 70s a lot of labour (Union) songs were part of my repertoire. Loved the Weavers and Pete Seeger. And Woody Guthrie. Lots of good more modern or contemporary music of that ilk, some already mentioned, others more radical ones like David Rovics.

The only Union song I know, as I'm not much of a Union guy, but anyway it's a good song:
