There was a local Chicago band called "Uncle Funky Pants". Always made me laugh when heard it.

My first band in HS was called "DiffStick" until one of my bandmates' dads figured out what we were up to. We were gearheads and had told our moms it was car-related when asked.

Now a band without a name, were were sitting around listening to a rehearsal recording of a cover we were working on when the lead player said "Man, that was just No F***ing Good". The bass player replied "Yeah we're really NFG" ... and the name stuck. Told the parents it was our favorite chord progression. Fortunately, they weren't musical.

So you’re saying this is false? Because I’ve heard this my whole life, that their name initially caused a lot of confusion...

I was in a band that called itself the Hot Flashes for a while. Nobody liked it.

    Then there's Alabama Thunderp***y.

I personally like the name but I think Husker Du's "goofy" sounding name might have been a bit of a buffer between them and mainstream success, for better or for worse

I got together with some old friends to play a few parties. I was informed at the last minute, before our first gig, that we were known as “A** Juice.” My mother would have been so proud.

(We later did an acoustic gig as “A** Juice Uncorked.”)

I seem to remember from another thread “Uncle Daddy and the Family Secrets”. Not sure why that one (and Turds of Misery) always comes to mind.

Anyone know the story on Turds of Misery? I mean, they had shirts and all

I’ve heard Johnny Rzeznik say that calling themselves the Goo Goo Dolls was a mistake and that once they became popular they had to live with it.

Urban Dictionary is a less credible source of information than Wikipedia. :D:D

They supported Lou Reed during his Australian tour in August 1974, for about 2 weeks. They played dates exclusively in Australia from their formation in 1973 until April 1976 when they went on a tour of UK and Europe. They didn't play their first US dates until 1977 by which stage they were well established.

Many years ago on the FDP one of the members asked for some band names for a new project, and Uncle Daddy and the Family Secret was one I suggested. Less than a year later there was a band in Indiana with that name. Lots of people read what we post here on these boards.

One band's record I remember seeing in the cutout bin at a record shop Stinkfist. That is a truly great terrible band name!
