I get really ticked off with all the usual suspects turning up in discussion forums involving ‘greatest guitarists polls’ as you always get the same ole names, Clapton, Hendrix, Slash, Malsteem blah blah, never anyone I particularly like, but then I guess my music taste probably explains why my guys or gals never show up !

how about some appreciation for Joey Santiago of Pixies, Richard Lloyd of Television, Robert Quine of Voidoids and Lou Reed, Peter Buck R.E.M, Poison Ivy of the Cramps, Jim Heath of Rev Horton Heat, and many many more

One of my favorites, who never gets a mention, is Greg Carmichael from, "Acoustic Alchemy".

Richard Bennett is one of my favorite guitarists. Never hear anything about him.

Too many to name. You're probably one of them! If we had time to go through every player...we would be here forever....! Appreciation is sometimes confusing to me in the world we live in. Who considers what is what and all that. I think the commercialization of this who is who is all part of this. Max props to those who are appreciated. So many just are not heard. Keep on pickin!!!

The first time I saw Holmstrom play (with Mavis Staples), it completely shook me up like no other.

Doug Pettibone is someone i really hope to see one day. Live at the Fillmore (with LW) is jaw dropping. He was great with Jewel too.

Stuart Mathis who now plays for LW is also stellar, the tone he gets from his white SG special is amazing

Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze leaps to mind.
He should be more celebrated for his smart guitar playing, IMO.
James Honeyman-Scott of the Pretenders, too.
Billy Bremner, John McFee, Dan Toler, John Hall, Andrew Gold, Dan Dugmore, and David Hidalgo all play (or played) brilliant, memorable and clever stuff.

Bo Ramsey (played slide and produced for Lucinda Williams)

    Doc Watson

    Willie Nelson

How many bluegrass or acoustic blues players should be on this list?

    Catfish Keith

Bob Weir (the underappreciated counterpart to Jerry Garcia)

    Buddy Guy

    Gary Richrath of REO Speedwagon

    Vince Gill

Marty Stuart (and the other guitarist in his band--whose name I forget right now)

    Derek Trucks

    Hubie Sumlin

Browan Lollar (lead guitarist for Jason Isbell)

    Ricky Skaggs

    Joe Walsh

    Steady Rollin Bob Margolin

    Buddy Miller

    I could go on

Chris Smither, finger style acoustic blues/blues-folk. No words for my admiration for this guy on a bunch of levels, playing, performing, song writing. His live shows are just a pleasure.
