It's a very faint, squarish sounding thing throughout the song. You can hear it best at about 1:17 it does a little walkdown:

Is it a keyboard? Guitar? Glockenspiel?

    Harpsichord or clavinet, maybe.

If you are talking about the single note walk down, that is Jerry Garcia in a rare moment of using a darker sound on guitar....at least that is what I hear. He almost melded with the note and tone of that piano right there. Listen to the rest of the guitar and you will hear the similarity.

I'm hearing an over driven electric piano thing. Not sure if Keith just hits that now and then or if its an overdub.

Nope, not that. I mean, Jerry is present in the walk down, but that's not the sound he's asking about. It is a keyed instrument with some effect. The album credits Keith as playing "Keyboards", so anything is possible.

    Sounds like a cheezy synth

There is a slide guitar doing a walk down, a piano play octaves on the walkdown and a synth (a breathy flutey patch).

Not aware of any slide guitar on this track. Some 70s keyboard patch would guess.

Yep, no slide. Definitely a keyboard tone. Not sure if anyone would know exactly what setting Keith put it on.

Sounds like a Dobro Slide to me, if I'm listening to the right thing. But definitely could just be guitar. Doesn't sound unusual at all to me.

I think you're overthinking it. My band plays this with two guitars, piano, bass, drums. We don't need no stinking subtle overdubs.

I hear what is talked about. It seems well matched with the keyboard. Could it be an added delay or chorus in the synth? That could sound like an overdub.

I hear the guitar taking that dark walk and the keyboard jumping up from where the right hand was to echo that movement...but the guitar is the dark single note movement...to my ear.
And....it matters not.....wondering about instead of doing it ruins the Dead thing, right????

You can also hear it in the verses when they do the 2 note stings.
