Two years ago, a friend who is a member at Christie's in New York took me and my wife to the pre-auction showing of Gilmour's guitar collection. Naturally, my camera went along...

    The Black Strat had copies...

and next to it, the White Penguin!

This lap steel had an estimated auction price of $1500. My wife said I should bid on it, but I passed. It ended up going off for $61,000.

And if those weren't enough guitars for one day, we left Christie's and ran uptown to see the Play It Loud exhibit at the Met.

    Here's Frankie!

    Beck's Esquire...

Micawber was absent that day. This still cracks me up.

What a day. I'm pretty sure I'll never see as many guitars in a single day, ever again.

Thanks for sharing, I hate that I didn't get to check out that "Play it Loud" feature while it was there

Thank you for sharing. Can you tell us anything about the two Telecasters in the background of the equally awesome White Falcon and Penguin pics. tia

Wow thanks for posting. That was all very interesting. Those rigs make my Katana look pretty puny.

Nice! I would have loved to see Gilmour’s guitars. I did, however, make it to the Play It Loud exhibit and was overwhelmed by it. I ended up going a second time on my own so my family wouldn’t be subjected to by obsessiveness. There was a lot I wasn’t expecting to see (like Page’s stage set up and Clapton’s “Fool” SG). I photographed everything!

If I remember right, one was a Broadcaster and one was a super-early Esquire.

I might have taken pics of the headstocks, I'll see if I can find them.

I just wanted to pick them up and play them, but it would have gotten me arrested.
