In my quest for greater understanding, I recently acquired Dave Hunters "The Guitar Amp Handbook". I enjoyed the book, but this isn't a book review thread so I will move on.

I have heard mention of the Two Stroke Amp Project published in the book as well as the Weber Maggie Amp ( almost identical with the exception of the additional parallel octal socket) and figured....why not build it! It was my intent to do a build thread but I'm terrible at posting pictures as I go so here are some pics of the process.

And the cab. 3/4" poplar, half blind dovetails, 1/2" birch ply for the speaker baffle and the back.

Thought I would try out some different finishes! The front valance is sealed, grain filled, dyed with Transtint purple wood dye. I then shot it with many coats of rattle can Acrylic lacquer, wet sanded to 1500 and polished.

Here she is all buttoned up and ready to go, dressed in purple and plaid! The face plate is flame painted copper that I was able to pull some pink and purple tones out with a torch! The plaid is coated in Polycrylic, but I didn't fill the fabric level as I wanted the contrast in textures.

Forgot the back! Loaded with an Eminence 1258 at 8 ohms. After trying 6v6, 6l6, EL34, and KT-66 power tubes, I settle on the KT-66!

She sounds great! Quiet at idle, great break up and cleans up well with the guitars volume knob without losing too much overall volume. With the KT-66 it has a Fat bottom end and lots of harmonic overtones! I was surprised with it!

Nice. Beautiful, clean chassis work, and the purple/plaid trim is a great touch.

I am familiar with the Two Stroke amp, but not a Maggie Two Stroke. Does this have that Lonnie Mack vibrato that Maggies are famous for?

No, sorry, the name was kind of a joke! The Weber Maggie amp is basically the same circuit as the Two Stroke amp without the extra parallel output tube. I used both as reference for the build!

Nice build!

also essentially the same amp as the Victoria Two Stroke (which would seem obvious I guess). Victoria also offers it as a kit, but at a premium.
