I recently received a Tweaker 15 head as a gift and currently use the speaker cabinet of my solid state Marshall MG100DFX. So I've got the Tweaker sitting on top of the Marshall and just moved the speaker connection up to the Tweaker. It sounds pretty darn good, noticeably better than the solid state amp.

There is nothing wrong with the Marshall ss amp, other than it's not a tube amp (which is why I now have a Tweaker). What I'd like to do is upgrade the speaker to a Celestion G12K-100. From what I've read, this will make the Marshall amp sound MUCH better. And I'm assuming I'll get significantly better tone out of the Tweaker than what I'm already getting. I figure that in this scenario of using these together, I would always have the Marshall solid state amp as a backup if one of the tubes went out or whatever.

Where I need advice is with the match up of the speaker and 15w Tweaker head. I have read lots of articles about Ohms and solid state versus tube amps, and about different wattage and what to expect. But I still seem to have a lot to learn here. For now, I'd just like to know how the Celestion G12K-100 speaker will perform with the Tweaker 15 head.

Any advice will be much appreciated!!

I have a WGS Reaper in a semi open back 1x12 cab and I love it with the tweaker 15.
I would choose the speaker based on what type of stuff you play.

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned music styles in my first post. I'm looking for everything from sparkly cleans and twangy Country, to very hard rock (not necessarily metal though). Clean and country stuff on my Tele, harder rock on my LP.

In addition to the Tweaker 15 head, I have a Zvex Box of Rock and an MXR Custom Badass '78 that I may use to help drive the amp. For cleans and twang, using an MXR Super Comp.

Hope that helps. I'm really hoping to get some more replies on this.

Thanks!

So I went ahead with the speaker upgrade and am very pleased, especially with the clean/semi-clean tones. Still trying to get tighter distortion out of the Tweaker - maybe tubes? Anyway, very pleased with cleaner tones. Also bought a Wampler EGO compressor and overall it's an awesome combination.

I posted a gear demo video if anyone is interested. I go through several scenarios, before (old speaker) and after (G12K-100), both the Marshall SS head and the Tweaker 15 head, from clean to dirty to metal, with Tele and LP. (This video was before I got the Wampler EGO, but I'm thinking of doing another shorter video with just the Tele, Tweaker 15, Wampler EGO, and Box of Rock. Great Country tone!)
