I drilled the holes for my fender style 6 inline headstock and bought some Grover tuning machines to fit it. My headstock is slightly under 1/2 inch thickness and these Grover tuners will not tighten down all the way to that thickness. I measured them with calipers and they are above a 1/2 inch when screwed all the way down. Is this normal for tuning machines? I figured I could add an extra washer what would be other options.

Yes, your headstock is a bit thin. I usually shoot for about 9/16".
You might cut a strip of matching pickguard material or plexiglass to fit under the tuners.

Glue on a piece or two of veneer to the back of the peghead.

Don’t get me going. Recently got some kluson tuners extra thick bushing. Still does not fit 335. So guess get out Teflon tape. Said my thickness on 2003 tad bigger . Tuner barely comes through. Enough. But hole also wide.

Thanks for the help. I’ll try to keep my headstock thicker next time.
