    HELLO!
Curious about the chicken or the Egg first.....
I am going to do a Tung oiled maple neck, with a gloss Poly Peghead.

Do I mask and spray the poly first then oil the rest?

Do I oil, then the poly over the oil finish later?

    Or something completely different?

You could poly first just dont let any excess tung dry on the poly. For the rest of the neck though i would recomend the sam maloof 1/3 tung 1/3 BLO 1/3 poly, i think it feels better than plain tung

Tung oil the whole thing. Give it a a day or two to dry. Apply your decal. Mask off around the peghead and fret board, then spray your poly over your decal.

Thats how I do an oil finish. Oil first, then decal, then lacquer on the peghead.
