It can be done, if the delay is obtained by electromechanical means like the old tape echos or oil can delays.
BBD circuits (as used in solid state analogue delays) would not really be practical using any sort of discrete devices, as they use one transistor per stage for (typically) 1024 stages. That only makes sense integrated in a chip, as 1024 discrete transistors would be a huge circuit, and I wouldn't like to imagine replicating that with 512 dual triode valves/tubes.

There is precedence for this in the Guyatone Flip series delay stompbox.

(link removed)

Dunno if the tube actually is an integral and vital part of the circuit, or if it's just there to be pretty and sell pedals

Idk if this counts

Ehx lpb2ube front half > tr2 > tech 21 rvb > mxr cc > lpb2ube back half > monoblock pp6v6 amp. Replace stock tubes with nos rca 12au7 clear tops.

To my ears framing the trem, verb and delay between the tubes works nicely. I also have 2 dirt boxes and eq in there prior to modulation fx's.

There is a guy I know in Northern California that makes analog tube delay pedals. They are pretty sweet but expensive. Look up crucial audio. He's got a couple of pedals he makes. He's also an excellent amp tech.

Well, not a delay exactly, but I have a schematic for an all tube chorus device - the design is circa 1956-57. I really want to get around to building it. Again, not exactly the same as a delay pedal, but I can imagine that an all tube chorus device would sound pretty sweet.

It takes nine tubes, including the power supply.

I'm making a tape echo... Which is about as old school as it gets for echo besides old echo chambers... Also, build the amp first... Hahaha

thepassivevoice - "Once you've built a giant bucket brigade tube delay in your basement, you can't go back to solid state echo. The organic warmth is indescribable."

You'd be heating the whole house with the heat coming off all those tubes.

That sounds intruiging. Will send a PM, but later ~ my GF just pumped me full of Trapiste beer

That does sound like it would be sweet. I'm curious how it works -- does it mix different preamp stages with varying amounts of phase shift on them?
