i have tube, ss and hybrid (tube preamp, ss power) amps and i use them all and dig them all, for different reasons. that said... if i could only use one, i would keep my main tube amp (which happens to be a TC50 like OP). but that's just me.

I've been playing my teles through my Roland JC-40 for quite a while. Nice clean sound. I recently bought my first tube amp - a Mesa Boogie Triple Crown 50 (what a way to start!). The sound and volume blew me away! So I wondered what it would sound like to hook them together. F ing incredible sound! Adding my Boss multi effects processor, I was able to get the sound that I've been looking for for years.
So, I believe I would take the tube amp over the solid state in my case. It might be a good idea to have one of each around.

What's your choice?

I have both Mesa tube amps and solid state..
I don't mix Bollinger with Coke so my Mesa amps will never be hooked up to solid state anything, or to a modeler either.

Also have a Fryette Power Station with 50w all tube power amp.
I can report that my Roland solid state amps are greatly improved when run thru the PS power amp.

Many PS owners report running their modelers thru the PS hugely improves them though I'll never try that cos don't own modelers :)

This kinda' reminds me of the battery vs. gasoline for cars debate. Both will usually get you from point A -> B.

Both SS and tube guitar amps amplify so it meets my criteria!

All generalisations but:

Tube amp, needs driving to get a good tone, maintenance can be expensive, (new tubes), expensive initially and heavy enough to be a recipe for a hernia.

Solid state amp, breaks up at low volume but the tone isn't always the best, maintenance is minimal, initially relatively inexpensive, light weight.

And so, the answer is..............................Tone Master! My TM Twin is everything i want and nothing I don't.

End of thread :) :)
