For 40 yrs, I stopped shaving in October, resuming in March (except keeping the permanent 'stache). . . .
A friend told me about a terrific local band he used to go see a lot when he was in college.

Every spring they did a double bill: They'd play a first set using their winter band name, then go backstage, shave, and do the second set using their summer band name.

I’m not really a beard goatee kinda guy after a couple weeks of not shaving I start to lose my mind. Plus hitting my mid 30’s and genetics they grey hairs have been showing up more than not. Decided to give this a go and didn’t shave for three weeks, last week I trimmed the nightmare up into a decent goatee. So week four of this part growing and it’s slowly becoming more tolerable. I’ve been keeping the perimeter nice and clean shaven and touch it up every couple days.

Haven’t gone many places the last week until tonight. Two separate places tonight I had the checkout women getting flirty which never happens. Go to get a drink at the gas station, sit it on the counter and she says is that all while eye boinking me and smiling. I said yes ma’am…. Oh it’s on me don’t worry about it.

Second place I sit my stuff on the counter and wrap up the transaction while she’s been doing the small talk and getting flirty. She gives me the total and does the oh are you sure that’s all you need tonight? Eye boink again.

Ok now I’m like what the heck this never happens. Before you all point and laugh at me have any of you found women have been more attracted to you with facial hair?
Maybe the beard is hiding enough of your face that you've now become marginally attractive to women.....

:oops::lol:

I'm sorry....I couldn't resist....I'm probably describing myself...I have the goatee but not the female attention so what do I know....have fun with it!!

Have you noticed how is affects your tone?
Yes! I notice it gives a bit of something to my clean tone, not really distortion, just hair.

Yup, sometimes too lazy for a goatee…

Bald AF here.
Had a full beard and long hair back in the day.
I go to the monthly blues jam and snicker at all the "Blues Daddies."
Hawaiian shirts. Cargo shorts. Crocks with sox. Sporty little hats.
And invariably a jaunty little Colonel Sanders white goatee.
Makes me think about one of the wiser things my Dad said:
"Why would anyone cultivate something under their nose that grows wild around their a$$?"

I sported one of those things just under your lower lip (soul patch?) for years. Then one day while sitting around with a few parents at a 5th grade science camp meeting for my son, one of the heavier (and seemingly less hygienic) mothers asked me “what’s up with the flavor saver”.

Been clean shaven ever since.

Lotsa scars on my face from accidents etc. I've always had a mustache. I've been married to my lovely wife for 22 years now and early on I would hint at growing a full beard she would scoff at the idea. 10 or so years ago I had my 1st neck surgery and had to grow it out like some others here on this thread. Now she scoffs if I even mention shaving it off. It would be nice to have some say in matters! Such as marriage I suppose!
Love her anyways.

Once in a while I'll do mutton chops in cold weather. I've done the soul patch a few times as well, but then I just get tired of hair farmin'.

I really don't care if women think it's attractive or not because at some point I'll have to speak up, and then my cover will be blown anyway.

I've had facial hair most of my adult life. I used to grow a full beard, about once a year for a month or so. But, I usually have a stache or Van Dyke.

I have a mean looking resting ***** face, so I've learned to shape my stache, where the end turns up slightly...makes it appear I'm somewhat smiling.

I started growing one because without it I look really really old. With it, I just look old.

Carmine Appice is my favorite drummer, and he did maintain his ridiculous trademark facial hair for decades (no goatee). I give him credit for that. He's probably a textbook lesson in marketing/image. People may not even realize that they've heard his playing, but they definitely recognize who he is.

I keep having this recurring daydream where just like Denzel Washington in the Book of Eli. I lay down on a table, and they shave me, and shave my head, and put a white robe on me, and I look twenty-five years younger. Might not work out exactly the same for me though.

Every time I grow a beard I think "man I look younger".
Every time I shave a beard off I think "man I look younger". 🤷‍♀️
It's funny, when I look at pics back when I didn't have a goatee, I think that they look fine. Now though, when I shave my goatee off, I look like more like a homeless person, than I did with the whiskers. Last time I shaved it off, my wife said grow it back, and don't do that again.
