I've got a Squier CV tele with a very very stiff but movable (functioning) truss rod nut. Can I simply remove it and replace it with another or is there a more complex operation involved than any other nut removal?

Will it just tumble on out?

It is also just slightly rounded and I want to check the threads, which add to my reasons for wanting to give this a go.

If the nut comes right off leaving threads, than you can replace it, assuming the threads are the same pitch on the new nut. Vintage style rods work like that. If it is a two way rod then the nut is most likely brazed on there.

Thanks for all the answers. Looks like not a simple pull/replace.
