My American Ultra’s truss rod won’t loosen comfortably. It turns, but it requires an uncomfortable amount of force, and it won’t turn smoothly.

But it’ll tighten, and it feels fine when doing that.

I’m the original owner. Haven’t touched the truss rod a whole lot, so theoretically it should be pretty neutral, unless it came all the way loosened from the factory?? Or is there glue stuck in there or something?

I spray a tiny bit of WD40 or penetrating oil on the threads. I have also seen truss rod nuts which were finished over at the factory. If its a double acting rod it will have a neutral zone and tighten in both directions when going past it. Single acting rods should just get looser

So you've tightened it and that feels fine. What's the situation when you go to loosen it back to just the original position?

If that's fine too, then the original position may indeed be all the way loosened.

When I tried testing this yesterday I think it was still pretty tough to loosen even if I tightened it a bit first.
