Has anyone done this and can you confirm if it's ok?

I'm refinishing a 40's Stella H929 and I want to rout for binding, do a light tobacco stain and finish with Tru-oil. I also want to recreate the traditional black painted headstock with the stencilled logo.

Can I tru-oil over paint or should i go with nitro?

    Cheers

    Dave

I've just been testing Tru Oil over paint (On scrap, but good surfaced Painted Wood). Paint is Acrylic Lacquer and so far as I can tell, all looks good.

Have yet to check how glossy it'll polish up, but it will polish for sure.

    great thanks.

I kind of assumed it would be fine as it's effectively a varnish rather than an oil and doesn't need to be absorbed. I imagine it may just take a little longer to dry over plastic.
