Three-legged dogs rule. When my wife and I see them, we refer to them as tri-paweds.

Yeah, I was going to guess some kind of blown-out preamp. Neve makes total sense. A very "lo-fi" sound that is popular.

Reminds me of when someone plays harmonica through a bullet mic into a Tweed because they want that classic lo-fi harp tone.

I also agree with Wally that there's a ton of ways to skin that lo-fi cat. Blown out or sliced speaker was another classic way. Or blowing out the built-in
mic in a cheap cassette recorder.

It's funny, being a Boomer those aren't the Holy Grail tones that I personally seek....but I do appreciate how they can really work. But there's this
whole school of dudes and dudettes that are into playing old crappy gear like old Harmony Guitars into ancient crappy Silvertone amps because they
really dig that crap-doodle tone. These are the same hipsters that wear porkpie hats, suspenders, drive old gas guzzlers, etc. But they're also
vegan, gluten-free, and claim to care a lot about climate change, notwithstanding the crappy emissions vehicle. Not that I'm stereo-typing or anything.....!

I haven't seen him in a few years,
but a fellow guitar buddy of mine
    ( really good player)
has that JHS pedal on his board ( just remember him telling me about the Neve preamp)
Also has a TS-808 and a Fulltone Fat Boost- I've never know what he has ON when playing- but great tone. Strat into a DRRI
Plus, he LOOKS like a guitar player, unlike me!

Yeah, when you put it that way: it seems like using an artisanal katana in order to slice a hunk of cheese. I think I'm still going to get a Big Muff someday soon.

In spite of the answer already being revealed, it sounds a little like a Blue Box to me.

Just another example of how being creative and not getting constrained by your equipment can produce some amazing sounds.

    Other examples:

Tape a balloon over a bare speaker.

Weave a paper clip through the strings near the bridge.

Tape some aluminum foil over the strings near the bridge.

Run your signal backwards through an effects pedal (some make CRAZY sounds this way).

    etc...

Yeah that was my first thought, simply an overdriven amp, and really I did not find the sound unique at all

I agree. It's just a really hard clip on the signal.

I like that song and the guitar sound. Thanks for posting it and the answer. I can get a similar sound with my Fuzz Factory (if you give me an hour or two to find it).

Would that do any damage to the Neve?
