How do you test out a tremolo effect?

yessir! I turn this one on and hear how it was done... The top picture shows the footswitch that came to me after I rebuilt the amp. Amazing coincidence that it surfaced in a search a friend had out for a Gibson footswitch for a GA-4RE unit.

Did you just call me a "fool"?!?:mad::twisted:

For me, this is only about testing an amp's tremolo. I don't use pedals. I only ever bought one pedal, the multi-fx pedal BOSS ME-70. I thought it would be a gateway to other pedals, but it didn't turn out that way. I now go for months at a time without using the ME-70, and when I do, it's usually only as a tuner.

But when I test an amp's trem, I almost always do something CCR. Yes, the intro riff to "Born on the Bayou" (that's the way I voted, BTW), but it could also be "Green River" or "Suzie Q." Actually, often it's all three. And if I want to test out an "It's-so-wet-I'm-drowning" tremolo setting, "Crimson and Clover."

Good one, Gil! :) Hadn't thought about that song in a long time. Now I'm wanting to add it into my performance repertoire.

Dunno. But if it was good enough for Pops Staples, it's good enough for me!

Slim Harpo. I regard ‘Bayou’ as a ‘Scratch My Back’ rip-off. But next I play Ry’s version of ‘If Walls Could Talk,’ especially if it’s a ‘harmonic vibrato.’

I’m another trem fanatic. My favorite is the Revibe I built (Fender standalone reverb + harmonic trem), or if I can’t use that, a Strymon Flint. After that, Vibro-Champ trem, then any power-tube bias-vary trem. Then opto or other pedals. I’ve got a lot of trem pedals, more than overdrives or anything else. SupaTrem is a good one, but the Flint is the best of the ones I have.

The problem with harmonic trem is it fills up a lot of space, so for me it works better in small settings.

I usually throw a couple of chords and then single note lines at it and if it doesn't behave like my Excelsior, I'm not interested.

I'll second both Guitar Town and Rumble.
Also I'll try Wicked Game, I don't think that song was recorded with trem but it fits perfect.
    Ditto Secret Agent Man.

Also just a big slow raked sweep across an Am or Em, from the high strings through the low ones

A good tremelo must have square wave chop. If it ain't got square wave, only triangle, its useless to me. And tap tempo too,

"Rebel Rouser" for me too. It took me a long time to find the tremolo that was in my head until I learned about the different Fender amp tremolo designs. Once I learned that it was the old Fender sine wave bias style Fender tremolo, it was in short order for me to find the "one" for me.

I bought the Oceans 11 for the reverb which is damn near the best I’ve heard in pedal. But it also has Sine. Wave, and Square trem. I like it better than the Mr Black or my Supa Trem.

Everything that Slim Harpo used tremolo on, that Jimmie Vaughan used it on (often imitating Slim), and all that Duane Eddy stuff...:cool::cool:

This one is pretty awesome as well...
