    Hey players,
I am contemplating adding a trem cover to my new build. It would be walnut to match the control cover. Would you do the trem cover or leave it off? Guitar will be deep mahogany red.

It's not any of my business what anyone does with their guitar, but to me a trem cover missing looks like a car driving around without a hood. It's a gaping hole to the innards.

I seem to be the only negative vote here. I don't even use the trem on my Strat but still left the cover off, I think it sounds better lol

The cover keeps you belt/shirt/pants from contacting the springs.
The sound can get picked up by the pickups, and come through your amp.
    Not a nice sound, IMO.
I have an EJ Strat with no cover.
    It kinda bugs me.
It may get a cover, soon.
    I recommend a cover.

I decided to make one. At this point it's two to one in favor, and details are important.

Frankly, I always take the darn things off, but I will likely play this for a little while to get the bugs out, then put it up for sale.

Another vote for no trem cover. I find them too large and square, which hardly ever complements the shape of the body...unless you are putting them on a Bo Diddly guitar ;)
Why not getting creative with the shape? Adding some curves to it?

I prefer the stripped down, all-business look of no trem cover.

On Strats most players left them off because of the pain of feeding the strings through the trem block and the silly little holes Fender had in the cover. The covers I make have a nice wide rectangular hole for that - like the one you have. My personal Strats have the cover off but that's for convenience.

A definite yes from here. Why even bother building a custom without one?

I know right? Lol, it's a funny story how I came to that decision.
My Strat has a bridge humbucker and a vintage SC in the neck. Thinking I didn't need/want the trem I blocked it off. Somehow it never sounded right so I punted. I unblocked it and having plenty from repair work I installed all 5 springs. First time I fired it up I hit a chord on the humbucker and heard SOMETHING. Taking the cover off AGAIN I strummed and heard the springs lol, and LIKED it. Finally ditching the cover, I drove in brass round head brads in the screw holes for decoration and it's been that way over 10 years. Except for the EMG I just put in the bridge, nothing has changed since. I love "Old Blue"
