Jeez man, some of my old biking mates became grandfathers while my kids were toddlers.

    Uncommon it's not.

""Here comes a girl with long brown hair who can't be more than seventeen. She sucks on a red popsicle while she pushes a baby girl in a pink carriage - and I'm thinking, "That must be her sister. That must be her sister, right?" They go into the 7-11, and I keep walking....Going over to Susan's house"..... eels... ;)

    To the OP :

The teacher actually talked to you.

You definitely don't have any grey hair.

Once you do get it - you become two things :

1.) Indeterminately old (no one knows exactly but you're always "kinda in your 60's").

    2.) Invisible.

If you walked in w/ your nieces and you did have grey hair, there's a very good chance the teacher wouldn't have even seen you.

"Did you girls walk here alone..?"

I'm 43 with a two year old and another one on the way. I can't wait until all this stuff happens to me. I think I'll go cry in my Geritol.

A similar thing happened to me today.

I was at a fire station in another town. The chief told a women that, at 16 years old, my son is a junior firefighter where I live.

She said I looked way too young to have a 16 year old son; I didn't tell her that I also have a 22 year old.

I guess that's not really all that similar... Never mind.

I'm 62, recently retired. I have three, the youngest is 25 and all are self supporting. I actually get to stop pulling the wagon. I think about that friend mentioned by bullfrogblues and I just can't imagine starting another family at age 58. What kind of shape is he going to be in 15 years from now. It's going to be awful hard on him, and absolutely wrong for the children, who will be virtually fatherless in their teen years.

I had a little bit of "recovery" tonight. At my part-time job at a nightclub, a former waitress who worked there a couple of years ago came in. She said, "Wow! You look great! Have you lost weight? You must have been working out."

Did I mention that she's an attractive young lady in her early 20's?

    Midlife crisis averted.

Doing a tour of the New South Wales Northern Rivers district when I was 45 I went to check in at the Pacific Hotel Yamba where the band was playing that night.

"How can I help you" the Pub manager said.

"I'm with the band" I said

    "!&[email protected]$ You're a bit old for this $#!+ aren't you?" he said.

My bandmates said the stunned look on my face was priceless.

It is sad that you have to qualify your reasons for simply talking with a child. Unfortunately, it has come to that. I hold back often from interacting with children simply to avoid the complications that can result by the reactions of others.

I agree, Ricky, not a great thing for the teens. My dad was 48 when I was born, so everyone at school thought he was my grandfather, too.
on the subject of marrying young, I guess it's not the norm these days. I was 21 and my wife 19, and we have 2 grown kids in their mid 30s, and one 7 year old grandson. Still married after 41+ years.

When I found out I was going to be a grandfather it sent me into the biggest midlife crisis the world has ever known!!! I was in Thailand at the time!!
Not a good scenario... Now being grandparents is cool!! I love it!!! You will too!!

I only qualify it here because if I don't, experience has taught me that it will turn into a tardfest about litigation and how times have changed blah blah blah.

In my actual life, I talk to everyone and I dont worry about. I still pat people on the back and I hug and I am exuberant.

kids and dogs and little old ladies and old guys like me fine... the rest is a bit of a crap shoot, but it works out, the actually interesting people and fun people are in the first lot... so, I feel lucky!

Sean, why you sonofa... ha ha! nice work man!

isn't it odd when they turn on you and the high horses come thundering toward you... self righteousness LOOKS like it will hurt... but it is more like being farted on... unpleasant, but no big deal as long as you don't have a bunch of 'frances' in you...

you, of course are totally right. I hereby change it to turdfest... I must have mistyped it.
