I have lived many places in the US. Does anyone know why this song is usually only played on this day? My hometown rock station always played it at 12 every year. KSHE 95 St. Louis. I've noticed many other cities play it too. Maybe at a different time, but still play it. My guess is it's too long for commercial radio and on holidays they gave the djs a pass back in the day. Like an extra break. Does anyone have any ideas or insight? "Except for Alice "of course. Lol ..Happy Thanksgiving to you all. This site has been to good to and for me. Thanks! Keep on pickin!!!

Years ago, a Charlotte radio station always played this on Thanksgiving. I'm not sure if the tradition continues. I don't who or how it all started.

WHFS in DC used to always do this. Here in Baltimore WTMD still does. I remember always listening with my dad on Thanksgiving when I was a kid. We will be in the car on our way to my sister’s around then, so I’ll put it on.

I’m not sure who did it first, but I’m sure it has to do with the fact that the dump was closed on Thanksgiving, which led to the massacreee and all the mother stabbing and so forth.

Interesting, but I'll be putting on my local rock station at noon today to see if it happens here!

I met Arlo a few years ago .
He was rude and mocked me .
I will never listen to anything by him again and from what I saw , I sure am glad that I am not him .

Alice’s Restaurant, in the DFW area, was only played on radios on Thanksgiving. KZEW played it at 12:00 and, I think, 4:00ish

Stream it at noon on WFUV.org. It just ain't Thanksgiving at my house without a lot of 8x10 color glossies with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one.

    I'm not proud...or tired!

It's the only day I play it in my house - and it WILL be played today.

I believe the rock stations in Detroit used to play it on Thanksgiving every year to remind us that amongst all the timeless music of the golden era of ‘65-‘75, a lot of horrible, “far-out”, and “groovy” crap also existed

Plenty of turds in the “classic rock era” punch bowl and some have circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back...

Uh......really? Have you ever listened to it?
As so many have already pointed out, the story revolves around Thanksgiving day and the dump being closed.
