We saw them in October and Luke announced it was the final 2 nights. Paich wasn't
even performing with them. The fill in keys guy was amazing though as was Lukather
    and the whole band.

I saw them play it this past summer. They were alright. I didn't really get whether they were playing it ironically or not. I kind of thought, maybe not.

I was attempting humor. I thought it was lame of them to do a cover of Africa

I thought the exact same lyric when I saw this in October.

I think the back story on it is that it was some kind of a joke. A 14 yo girl started bugging them about it, and then it caught on, and then Toto and Weezer both got in on the act.

What bugs me is, why didn’t Weezer do it better? All I hear different is fatter low end and a bit different drum part, and vocal overdubs to cover the absence of the vocal strength in the original.

But Rivers Cuomo is supposed to be a screaming guitar shred overlord inside the hipster nerd suit. Time to let it out of the cage, Rivers...where better place to do that?

They should have, to help erase the psychological impact of the lamest, wuss-est keyboard solo ever.

Although to be fair, I should also ask why Lukather didn’t throw some guitar amazingness on the original instead of that tooty little keys solo, first time around.

Just my perspective on Toto: amazing musicians, weird band.

I really appreciate Steve Lukather. However, I, for the life of me, could never figure out why he milked Toto for all these years. He is a lot better than that IMHO.

There is a difference between "touring no more" and "may never tour again", both of which are the OP's statements.
However, if one takes the time to read the article, that is not what Lukather says.
In the article he first says ""It's gonna be our last one for the foreseeable future" and then says "we're gonna come back and work, a bunch. I mean, we'll come back at some point".

I am really tired of Click Bait titles.

I'm going to bet most haven't heard TOTO XIV. It's a pretty darned good album with Luke, Paitch, Steve Porcaro, and Joseph Williams as the core.

In many cases, it's not obvious until one does click on them. As in this case.

Guess he needed something to do between Ringo's All-Starr Band tours.

I thought Weezer did a pretty good job live. It was convincing enough. It was a moment of cognitive dissonance. I didn't know if they were serious or not, because they seemed to be. I wasn't aware that this was some kind of Internet thing that was going on.

Lukather has said he thinks it's a dumb song. I think I might feel that way if I were stuck playing the same song for 40 years, even if I had made a ton of money from it. But I'd still play it.
