Here’s a custom build I just finished up for a friend. I’m really digging the full tort / no lamination look lately. Not quite a Tele, but it is 25.5” scale.
Same guitar, different style,
the Jazz bass is MIM ( I traded with an accoustic the guy wanted) and yes in Arctic white the bass came originally with a white pickguard but I changed it to match the other bass , the Precision copy is a Rogue I bought in 78 I put P-bass pickups and a Gibson Ripper bridge on it it feels fantastic to play it's cream now but if you pull off the guard you will see its actually white that has aged in the past 41 years to that color of cream ( no complaints here) when I last set the Rogue up I took off the neck to reset it and it was heavier than the loaded body, got to love maple!
I like that tort on black, and the uniform look of the three pickups. But while I wouldn't say "hideous," I don't care for that tort on Sonic Blue.
Whoa, @BorderRadio ! Thanks! Lots of stimulating examples there! Boy, talk about your multiple tortgasm!

It sported a Goncalo alves neck with some crazy grain. RW would look sharp with a nice dark tort guard I think. The tuner buttons were pearl to match the body, was a sharp guitar, sold it but I wish I gave it more of a chance because it was aesthetically perfect to me, just didn't fit
I'm in tort recovery, but oops, I got two more coming, a Decoboom Streamlined Jazzmaster tort and a CAR CP Jaguar with red or brown tort, have both ready to go but haven't decided which....
First step is admitting I have a problem
Yet another fine example of tort on black with uniform color pickups. Cool!
Very nice custom build, @magic smoke . Reminds me of a B&G Little Sister.
I like the line work on the single ply, did you engrave this yourself?
I'm not too fond of Tortoise pattern, because I find most of them cheap or ugly...
Except this one, from @BorderRadio :
I prefer Acetate :
But it's me, OK ?
Tort goes good on just about any color.
Used to have a Buttercream Strat back in the 90's with a Tort guard, loved it.
Thanks man, I made the guard myself with a round over edge, instead of the typical 45 degree bevel.
I know your work, good stuff
