I like Heart on a hits basis. Great r'n'r, but I never felt they had a complete solid album.

Lots of greats already mentioned; I’d add a couple bonafide punk classics:
    The Slits-Cut
    X-Ray Spex-Germ Free Adolescents

That's a great list. I prefer the earlier Lucinda Williams album on Rough Trade. And I will add a couple others to the excellent list by northernguitar.

k.d. lang - Absolute Torch and Twang
    No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom
    Tedeschi-Trucks Band - Revelator
Bonnie Raitt - Luck of the Draw

Funny - I was thinking about the fact that nobody ever starts a thread "Top Ten Albums by Male Artists" so in a sense this thread is an excellent illustration of the sexism that is still endemic in our society.

Given that, off the top of my head (in no particular order):

    1. Pretenders - eponymous
    2. Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road
    3. Brandi Carlyle - Give up the Ghost
    4. Pretenders - Learning to Crawl
    5. The Go-Gos - Beauty and the Beat
    6. The (Dixie) Chicks - Taking the Long Way
    7. Carole King - Tapestry
    8. The Supremes - Where Did Our Love Go
    9. Dolly Parton - The Best of Dolly Parton
    10. Leslie Gore - I'll Cry if I Want to

Found a copy of Mary's Danish at a thrift a few years back - it's a great record.

I’m a massive Kate Bush fan as in bootlegs and all. And Joni but I’m gonna add some that aren’t already listed here:
I’d add Courtney Barnett - A Sea of Split Peas is as good a songwriter’s album as any in the last decade.

Kate Bush “50 Words for Snow” is one of the best this decade for me, anyway. If you listen to Among Angels and don’t cry you’re just an animal.
Chrissie Hynde and Valve Bone Woe!
    Suzi Quatro self titled.
    Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising

My post, my pick! So I’m adding Pylon - Chomp. Not a solo act but Vanessa Briscoe unintentionally changed music.

Sorry. But...Patrice Rushen - Straight from the Heart.
And speaking of Heart! Dreamboat Annie.
Blondie self titled. Or Sex Offender Live.

The hollywood celebrity gossip machine got every last cent it could out of her troubles. I went along for the ride too.

Since I'm the president of the Dori Freeman fan club in Texas (self-appointed!) I'll nominate her first album into this illustrious gathering.

"In late 2014, she sent a Facebook message to Teddy Thompson (son of Richard Thompson) who liked her music so much he decided to produce her album. Thompson says that it took him "maybe 10 to 12 seconds to realize she's great" and he was struck by her "straight-to-the-heart delivery."[2] The album was funded through Kickstarter and released by Free Dirt Records on February 5, 2016.
