It seems like we're getting to the point of just randomly labeling any guitarist "douche". Bono, okay there's a douche. The Edge, Buckethead, I just don't see it.

If a 50 year old man comes up to you and introduces himself as "The _____" and isn't a batman villain, your douche detector is going to buzz a little bit.

Never cared much for any of em... maybe they should spend the rest of their lives listening to nothing but bb king and bill frisell recordings.

    I think that would help...

This is a great article!!! Each one deserves their place on this list...though my number 1 would be Mayer. I try to be PC on the guy...but its hard to hold back sometimes..I just cant stand him and his over dramatic faces. Would have been great if BB just slapped him in the middle of one of those constipated faces.

    Sorry folks...couldnt help myself!!

Cut him a break . All the more pretentious names were already taken.

If he'd just named himself that i'd agree, but if he chose the moniker as a teen and became a rock star with it i'd think it'd be a bit odd to start going by "jeff' (or whatever his real name is) mid career.

If anything i'd be more likely to call out his wall of effects and kinda cheezy playing, still doesn't seem like a douche though, imo

Having read Keith Richards' autobiography, I'd put him at the top of this list. The man thinks way too highly of himself.
Joe Bonomasa is a douchy face-player, like Mayer, but he also throws in far too many hero poses for one show. He seriously needs to get over himself.

Well, if we want to talk about pretentious names, in general, not just guitarists... How about taking on a stage name, then replacing that with a symbol, and banning everyone from calling you by your previous (taken) name?

Totally agree on that, I never understood all the john mayer talk til I saw that clip, truly painful to watch and the stuff he was playing wasn't exactly mind blowing to deserve all those O faces lol. Steve Vai still tops it for me though

You were unprepared, so that makes Rick Nielson a douche?

I've met Rick probably 5 times, and he's always been nice as can be.

Prince? That's his birth name, but agree the symbol was a pretty douchey move even though it was supposedly because of a contract dispute, I thought douchier was when he wrote "slave" on his cheek, after signing a $50 million deal but deciding later that he didn't like the terms.. now that is douchey behavior imo

I'm happy to be validated on my annoyance with John Mayer, and they nailed why.
As to EVH, his personal behavior can be considered douchey, but he blows it when he says eruption was bad :p

I've only skimmed through most of this thread, but has anyone mentioned Chuck Berry. I love his licks, but he seems to have a serious attitude problem to put it mildly.

I attended a Joe Satriani concert (not my "thing") with a friend who was hoping the show would convert me to a fan. It didn't.

The opening act that was supporting the tour was some guitar driven band, with vocals, that I've now forgotten the name of. The guitarist-leader of the band, says "This next song is called Elizabeth. I'd like to dedicate it to all the Elizabeths in the audience. Oh wait, I forgot...I'm playing to a room full of men."

I didn't go to the NAMM show to purchase anything for myself OR to get autographs from anyone, I was there as a buyer for the chain that I was a manager for. I was there to WORK, not to buy crap for myself to haul around all day from appointment to appointment.
