Specific question about the Tonemasters (TMDR): What do owners think of the cabinet sim, for going out direct? People never seem to like the direct outs on any amp. For those of you that have used these, what do you think?

I can’t answer from experience, but I don’t think this is a typical ‘direct out’.

Back when I had my TMDR, I was constantly surprised by how good it sounded.

I only use it as a headphone interface (XLR to 1/8th female plug) and love it for that.

What do you run it into for the headphones?

    Nothing!

The XLR to 1/8th and straight into the headphones.

You can crank the front volume to get the breakup you want, and use the back volume dial as a master volume. I'm amazed how great it sounds.

I’m pretty sure the Tonemasters use impulse responses for the direct out, which a completely different animal than the “speaker simulated” outputs on older amps.

It is an IR for the cab with a couple of mic choices. I use it for late night recording and I think it sounds fantastic.
