I recently purchased a Tone King Gremlin and have been experimenting with various preamp tubes. Anyone out there doing any power tube experimenting? So far I like the 12AT7 the best in the V-1 position for a preamp tube, but I haven't fooled around with power tubes yet. Thoughts anyone?!?

I have since settled on a Groove tubes 12AY7 in preamp stage one and a Genalex KT88 power tube. This works best for me because it doesn't break up as easily, but when you really get on it, voila!!

Fwiw, that GT logo tells one nothing about what tube one has. There is a indication in the tube number that tells you whether you have bought a Chinese, Russian or JJ tube. Also, fwiw, you could put a different KT88 in that amp with different operational specs and it would act differently than the KT88 you have in there. IMHO, it is of interest to know the biasing numbers even in a cathode biased amp so that one know what one likes to hear and can replicate it hen the tube needs to be changed. IOW, a hotter tube will break up earlier than a cooler tube...even of the same model from the same manufacturer.
Congrats on what has to be a nice amp.
