Now most of you who aren't Dutch will probably look at this guy going "Who's that, unfamiliar face..." This is cabaret artist Youp Van 't Hek who for forty years and counting has been doing one man shows and songs in Dutch. Having a very wry, acidic sense of humor.

Here's the cover for the 45 single which was Van 'T Hek's major break through. The song is a Christmas song about a boy who found that his parents wanted to eat rabbit for Christmas dinner and went the cheap route, by taking the boy's pet rabbit "Flappie" to fulfill that desire.

This year Van 'T Hek was very pleasantly surprised to find out that none other than Todd Rundgren decided to cover the song. "How is it possible that he even knows about me?" Van 'T Hek remarked when he was presented with the song.

The lyrics were PROPERLY translated, there's no difference with what the original song told lyric-wise.

But I echo Youp Van 'T Hek's question, how on earth was Rundgren aware of him?

TR has always had an eye for the obscure, and it known for his odd cover tunes. Like this one.

Wonder if he needed a bit of "Dutch Courage" before recording that?
