Today, I've been using the word "Unbelievable" non stop. Because my high school sweetheart is back.

This picture was taken by my mom in 1994 at our high school graduation, the only picture which has me and her together.

Now this morning, I heard my mother outside my window enthusiastically going "OOOOOH!" and thought nothing of it until she began ringing my doorbell in quick succession. I figured "Oh boy she's locked herself out again." and made my way to the front door but when I opened the door, there she was. My old high school sweetheart who I hadn't seen since 1996.

Turns out that she goes through physical therapy in a neighboring town and wondered if I still lived there. She saw my family name on the door and then my mom spotted her. She actually told my mom that she was apprehensive to use the doorbell, not sure if I wanted to see her. At which my mom went "Trust me, he will be happy to see you!"

    And boy was I ever.

25 years since I last saw her in person and it was as if the years just vanished, turns out that our lives had pretty much ran in parallel. She much like I did had been working very long hours until physical problems forced her into early retirement. She, just like me never found anybody to settle down with and remained single after we lost touch.

I just finished a three hour phone call with her and my head is spinning and my heart is doing cartwheels, something I never felt with subsequent girlfriends.

I had always been told that she would came back into my life someday and I always went "Yeah, well, we shall see..."

    And here she is!

That's great! Hope it works out!

A good friend ran into his HS girlfriend/first love at their 25th reunion, and they're still together ten years later.

    Good for you Blazer.
Since the advent of Facebook I've gotten reacquainted with a few old girlfriends that I thought I was very serious about.
I'm glad those things didn't work out.

I ended up marrying my High School sweetheart. (we got pregnant)
BIGGEST mistake of my life! The marriage lasted ten years, the turmoil continues to this day.....not to me (I rarely even think about her) but the emotional damage she did to our daughter has never been resolved.
Good luck to you @Blazer.......sometimes High School sweethearts are worth pursuing.....sometimes not. ;)

Yep, I know what you mean. Spotted an ex-girlfriend from school at a wedding a few years back - time had not been kind to her.

The funny thing is, and I pointed that out to her, that she lost her southern "Soft-G" accent since she lived in Rotterdam and Nijmhegen for a long time.
