Koalas will drink water but only in xtreme conditions like bushfires. That's why they eat Manna gum leaves, that provids then with food and water. Named after Manna from Heaven on the Exodus. They are koalas not Koala bears ( sorry Killing Floor - I did have a beer or three ).

The last time I was in Oz, I remember my brother telling me an interesting factiod about Koalas and chlamydia.
Up to 100% of them in certain areas are infected.

It sounds like a university freshers week from hell.

Was driving to get a beer or three and for some reason looked to the left. A fully grown Koala was about to cross a narrow road right under my wheels. Well, I stopped and put on my hazard lights, all traffic had to stop as it was a 50Km. single lane road, nice gum trees either side.
I waited awhile and then asked a lady behind me if she'd seen the cute animal , she pointed to the other side of the road and a man with a towel was trying to wrap him up and carry the koala to a park where there are many Manna Gums- good man.( NO, they are not koala bears, simply koalas).
I was so happy not to have one of the cutest , non- aggressive animals (akin to Pandas bears) killed. A beautiful animal whose life I and the other guy's life we saved that animal. I was so happy I spoilt myself to an egg and lettuce sandwhich on the last kilometres home.
The lady in the store said I'd done the right thing as it is against the law to kill a native species. I'm just so happy I did not kill such a beautiful creature. That was my Valentine's day .

Awesome.

That sketch was my first exposure to philosophy.
Especially the line...
"a man they called Kierkegaard, who just sat there biting the heads off whippets."

It seems strange to me more people don't stop and help kualas. It's getting out of hand, 9 times out of 10 when I see kualas on the side of the road, it's like they don't exist, people just drive right by without even slowing down! It's worse with penguins but at least they can fly away if they need to. :)

Seriously, tho, that's very cool of you. And a very unique and special story.

Yep. I liked it there. Good pies as I recall. The entire beach and surf were totally covered with small stingy jellyfish.

Bluebottles are no fun.
Most ppl at Samurai don't wear many clothes either as I'm sure you are aware so the stings must be in some nasty areas of the body!
Not many clothes!…pies!….

HAIR PIES!!!!

If you ever get the chance to eat barbecued koala you could be forgiven for thinking it was a cross between a platypus and a fairy penguin.
I ate some Joey the last time I was in Oz.
One question though, what do those big Alsatian dogs with wings that fly around Sydney taste like?

Q: Why aren't koalas considered "bears"?

A: They don't have the koalafications.

Good on you for saving the little guy, brother.
