Was driving to get a beer or three and for some reason looked to the left. A fully grown Koala was about to cross a narrow road right under my wheels. Well, I stopped and put on my hazard lights, all traffic had to stop as it was a 50Km. single lane road, nice gum trees either side.
I waited awhile and then asked a lady behind me if she'd seen the cute animal , she pointed to the other side of the road and a man with a towel was trying to wrap him up and carry the koala to a park where there are many Manna Gums- good man.( NO, they are not koala bears, simply koalas).
I was so happy not to have one of the cutest , non- aggressive animals (akin to Pandas bears) killed. A beautiful animal whose life I and the other guy's life we saved that animal. I was so happy I spoilt myself to an egg and lettuce sandwhich on the last kilometres home.
The lady in the store said I'd done the right thing as it is against the law to kill a native species. I'm just so happy I did not kill such a beautiful creature. That was my Valentine's day .

Nice one. The only encounter I've ever had with a Koala was at Samurai Beach. I guess it was mating season. He was being very noisy and rude...those little guys can be LOUD.

Then I saw some Meat Ants and stopped looking up as much.

akin to Pandas bears
A pedant writes: I’m sure you know that koalas are not closely related to pandas (more distant from than we are!). Pandas are bears: although we hear people say “koala bear” they aren’t (they are marsupials).

However, good save! Despite their non-placental lineage I’m in favour of saving koalas whenever possible. :)
