amongst my homebuilds i have a Tele Deluxe / shiflett alike

its the Tele fender don't really make, and friedman make a nice guitar i'd need to sell a kidny to finance...

neck is a block inlayed big headstock, which was a big aesthetic thing for me. pair of SD 59s i put raw nickle covers on

but the key is the body. its stained blue and finished with truoil

i have been playing with rattle cans, respraying guitars - and i realise i don't really have a red guitar any more

should i do the deed on this? or leave as is and regret something i never did?

I wouldn't paint it but I would go to a solid color pick guard/cavity cover.

The pattern in the pick guard and the grain pattern in the body is just too much for my personal aesthetic, it's like a lively Hawaiian shirt and plaid shorts.

    Just my taste though.

As it is it looks like a worn out pair of blue jeans - and I LOVE that look! I'd leave it as is - might change the pick guard to a blue though. The preceding statements are opinions only - and mine at that!

Don’t touch that beauty! It’s perfect as it is.

    I really dig your guitar.

I'd paint it. I don't like my guitars to look worn or beat up.

That body is fantastic looking. I agree I wouldn't paint over that. If you need a change, try changing the pickguard so something less busy

thank you for the feedback so far - the scratchplate thing is an interesting idea

also - if you like this one, you will be heartbroken when you see what my purple one used to look like... :)

Lovely piece of wood, the blue stain works wonderfully with it.
I would change the pickguard too white or off white, or black.

Toirtoise shell doesn t work for me (but it doesn't work for anything IMO - just my own taste there).

Great as is! But of course what does an group of opinionated butt heads matter compared to what you want yourself.

Sell it to me and buy the colour you'd like??

I think that looks stunning as it is personally, and I'm a sucker for the red shell on blue look.

I wonder what an aged white pick guard would look like.

Looks like a great guitar but visually there’s a lot going on as it is. Could look better if it were simplified just a little.

White guard and black knobs. I’m a fan of the guitar in general.

    Mine......

leave it as is lovely colour and put a proper tele neck on it and lose the scratch plate far to much going on with it , and man that headstock is huge. unbalances the look of the whole guitar imo.
Could maybe do a red tele body with that neck with a jazz master style pick guard.

That wood grain and color are WAY too gorgeous to cover up! Lord knows that I've tried and failed a few times to have a faded blue jean-ish body come out anywhere near that nice.

Yeah, it's your guitar to do with as you please, but that thing is really only a pickguard color change (something easily done and undone......) away from being perfect. The suggestion for a white or off-white pickguard/scratchplate seems great to me.....

Why not build another red guitar?

JagMaster1.jpg Your stain job is really nice. I'd leave it. I have a greenie that's very similar but no pickguard. Looking at yours I might do a little more careful light sanding to increase the worn look on mine..
I actually like your blue tint better, maybe ..lol

Another vote for don’t paint, change pickguard. I like a tort pg, but not on that one, especially given the size of it. If it were mine, I would be trying to find a denim pickguard.

I do like that blue. It's very different from any other finish I've seen. If anything, mess with the pickguard. It works as is, but there may be something better out there. Someone above said it looks like an old pair of blue jeans. I wonder if you could do a denim pickguard. That would be cool.

    i did a thing

    IMG_20191130_213626273 (1).jpg IMG-20191130-WA0018.jpeg IMG-20191130-WA0016.jpeg

its all gone a bit shell pink...

although the blue is peeking through in places. i am sure in time, it'll age and the wear will reveal the blue again. its still under there
