I've had a ringing in my ears for some years now. It's always there, sometimes worse, sometimes not so bad, but always there.

Nirvana helps your tinnitus?

I can parrot most people here:

- I have it, but have gotten used it, which is the best treatment. It's basically automatic cognitive behavioral therapy. You simply learn to ignore it most of the time.
- I don't notice I have it until bedtime, or until someone mentions it (thanks to whoever started this thread LOL)
- I use many things to sleep: "colored" noise, sleep stories via phone apps like Calm and Headspace, and oftentimes music (I keep my iPod at my bedside).
- I've been using hearing protection for everything (even mowing the lawn) for the last 20 years, but the original damage had been done. I've never seen a doc about it, I just ignore it.

And then something unique to me: I have chronic Lyme disease, and tinnitus can be caused, or made worse, by it. That's what's happening now, as I am having a lyme flare for the last year or so.

I sleep with the white noise machine on. That helps at night.
At the same time I also slowly start to check hearing aid online as I understand it will be the only solution for me in the future. It is a scary step to take but guess it just will be necessary.

Yeah. Georgia Satellites. Circa 1990. Add in some loss of highs thanks to aging. And significant loss of lows in one ear. Cause unknown. But I was told if this happens suddenly, get thee to an ear doctor yesterday.

Cheers,

I'm sure many here hear a constant ringing of tinnitus. Have any of you tried listening to noise to cancel the ringing?

As for colors of noise, white noise has many randomly generated tones with equal energy in all octaves, red noise emphasizes the lower octaves, violet noise emphasizes the higher, etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colors_of_noise

There are lots of hours-long videos on Youtube with different noise types as the soundtrack. At the moment I'm trying violet (fish frying) and it might help a bit.

It dose not help me. I hear a air hose and radio static only. When I first got it the original Xbox running all night took away the noises.

Benzo's take away the noises but the doctor will not give you any. It is a side effect. And they think you are crazy. I took it before. But one day it will quit working. And you are screwed.

My cousin takes motion sickness medicine it helps her. It dose not help me. It makes mine worse. Sleep medication makes mine louder.

The tinitis forums eats Benzo's. And find herbs to lower tinnitus. Each person is different. What may work for me will not work for you.

I went to my dad's hearing doctor. Once it went so low nothing made it rise in noise. Then it came back louder.

I wish I had a benzo sometimes.

Mine is mostly a particular pitch. Sometimes louder than others.

At our last house when the fridge compressor was on in the other room, it was a hair off the tinnitus pitch, so it caused my tinnitus to sound like a wave. That sound, rather than masking the tinnitus, drove me bananas.

My dad's hearing doctor said raise the noise right up to the tinnitus and it should mask it.

William Shatner use hearing aids with a clicking noise.

I've heard rumors of listening to sounds that supposedly reprogram your hearing to where you don't hear it on a long term basis I've never looked into the detail.
