I've just completed my Time Machine that will allow me to travel back in time and then return. I will only be able to Observe and Report. I won't be able to change the outcome of History, only write about it here in TDPRI land.

Where would you like me to go? What mystery would you like to unravel. I'm only interested in music history, I want to be entertained while I'm traveling.

I plan on going to the "Crossroads" to sort out that Fiddlin' Contest. I'd like to observe the Robert Johnson recordings down in the hotel in San Antonio. I'd sure like to see who Robert Johnson "ticked off" that got him poisoned.

Okay, when I get back, I'll need some new destinations. Where would you like for me to travel?

Okay - Reread the original post

I'm interested in music related stories. Music. You know like Woodstock or who stole that money from the Drake Hotel Lock Box after the Led Zeppelin concerts. You know Music. Not politics.

    Play on.

Geez you're having a hard time getting music related requests. Even the mods don't wanna play by the rules.

Could you do us a favour and go back to see how Jimi Hendrix really died.

Edit: getbent there's no need to take your bat and ball and go home, I just thought your time travel requests weren't in the spirit of the OP which was for music related requests...

I bet she was hot. Real hot.

I'd like to find out what happened to Amelia Earhart. And whether Mrs O'Leary's cow really did burn Chicago.

I'd go back and put all of it on that horse, put the winnings in the bank and leave a note with the institution to credit the entire compounded fortune to my great, great grandson in 2010 who will walk in the door at 3:37pm Tuesday the 5th.

Sticking to the original post request

I'd appreciate it if you'd go check out when Charlie Christian and T-Bone Walker got together to play. They were friends and each supposedly influenced the other. It would definitely be something to witness and report - two groundbreaking guitarists for their respective genres. If you could slip in something to record it that would be appreciated, too.

What happened there? I'm open to suggestions as long as I'm going to hear some music and I'll be entertained. Neve rmind I got it. http://www.toddberman.com/show103.htm

    I'm there.

Also I plan on looking in on The Allman Brothers at Fillmore West and I plan on spending some time with Sam Phillips when he auditions Elvis and also Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Three.

If any of you guys were there and can tell me some stories before I leave, it might enhance my experience.

    clear this one up:

Nicolo Paganini, born in Genoa, Italy, in 1782. He was an Italian violinist and a composer, considered by many as the greatest violinist of all time.
At 18 years old he was known in all of Italy, but His fame as a violinist was only matched by his reputation as a gambler and womanizer.
His playing of tender passages was so beautiful that his audiences often burst into tears. He could also perform with such force that in Vienna one listener became half crazed and declared he had seen the Devil helping the violinist.

Paganini enjoyed playing tricks, like tuning one of his strings a semitone high, or playing the majority of a piece on one string after breaking the other three. He astounded audiences with techniques that included harmonics, double stops, pizzicato with the left as well as the right hand, and near impossible fingerings and bowings.

As his reputation grew, so did the rumors of Paganini forming a pact with the Devil(or being the son of the Devil). How else could anyone play like that?

Also his appearance: One description of his features says: "his pale, long-drawn face with its hollow cheeks, his thin lips that seemed to curl into a sardonic smile, piercing expression fo his eyes which were like flaming charcoals, gave him a diabolic appearance...". The "nail in the coffin", so to speak, was that Paganini refused to see a Bishop that had come to give him the final sacraments when he was on his deathbed.

    Now, there is a mystery:
    Did Paganini:
    a) Just have an incredible amount of natural talent?

    b) Did he suffer from Marfan syndrome; a genetic disorder of the connective tissue, that allowed him fingerings and bowing a "normal" person didn't have? (People with Marfan's are typically tall, with long limbs and long thin fingers.)

    c) Did he indeed make a pact with the Devil?

    hmmm..Interesting stuff.
This is the most intriguing musical history subject I can think of.

I would love to read some TDPRI discussion on this one.
