So... of course I have listened to a lot of Rush this week.
Time Stand Still was never really a standout for me... until this week.
I always pictured Geddy as the actor, author, singer of the story... however. It came to me today that likely Neil wrote it.
I find, yes he did. No surprise. What a cool guy, what a great part of the Rush experience.
So sure he will be missed by those around him.

All three are/were incredibly gifted musicians. Their body of work is truly awe inspiring. Musically and lyrically they are at the pinnacle of rock genre. I am still gutted over Neil Peart's passing.

After joining the band, he wrote everything with a couple of exceptions on Caress Of Steel and 2112.

Anyway, that song has always touched me, it is quite thoughtful and wise. My daughter really likes the song, and it has given us a few very substantial conversations (she's only twelve as of this writing) so I thank Mr Peart for that.

I appreciate you posting about this. While I'm not horribly distraught over this, it has certainly had an impact on me. It has prompted some sort of internal shift, so I could certainly discuss his passing, Rush, and all things related for some time to come. His lyrics and their music has been such a central part of my life from the time I was a kid. It has even been a very important part of my marriage, as my wife is a big Rush fan as well.

NEIL wrote everything. Incredible mind as well as an elite drummer.

Peart does not get enough respect for his lyrical genius. It's understandable that his drumming overshadowed it, especially in a band of their nature. But, he was an incredible writer.

By the way, if you really want to feel torn up listening to Rush right now, listen to Afterimage. Those lyrics hurt something fierce right now.

    Suddenly, you were gone
From all the lives you left your mark upon
    I remember
How we talked and drank into the misty dawn
    I hear the voices
We ran by the water on the wet summer lawn
    I see the footprints
    I remember
I feel the way you would
I feel the way you would
Tried to believe but you know it's no good
This is something that just can't be understood
    I remember
The shouts of joy, skiing fast through the woods
    I hear the echoes
I learned your love for life
I feel the way that you would
    I feel your presence
    I remember
I feel the way you would
    This just can't be understood
