No tabs that I find show this but when the first verse starts, I hear Tim playing a Dshape E 0xx454 and then moving to this chord, 0xx232.
Oolimo chord analyzer tells me this is a Esus9....root,sus4, b7,9.
I think he was trying to imply an E7 by playing the root over the D chord thus root and flatted seventh.
Are sus 9 chords used this way in other tunes?
It sounds great!

Hm. Dunno. Could you be hearing an E9 or E9sus4? That second chord of yours looks like a Dsus2 — a D with a low E thrown in. Lots or substitutions will work, so you might well have nailed it.

I'll step aside to let folks who know what they're talking about answer.

My favorite part is that Am7. Saw Tim at Woodstock but don't remember him playing this. If my memory serves me well (a big if), he played some songs on piano — one-handed and badly.

Thanks for posting!

From what I've heard over the years, TH was higher than a kite when he took the stage at Woodstock. 😞

Sure seemed like it. I like the videos of him there, though.

9sus4 chords -- everybody want to claim them. Search on YouTube, "It's the jazz sus chord", "it's the gospel chord", "it's the video game chord"...
As my 7 year old grandson sez; "Papa.....that's kinda sus.

back in the mid 80's, I played in a band called 'The Suspenders!'...It was a last minute thing where the band due to play had other commitments....so, we (former members and various band/jams) were asked at the last minute to help out.

Saying yes to helping out a club in need, for once helped us. We played what we wanted, took requests and basically had an awesome time doing what the hell we wanted...the crowd dug it and we packed em in for the next few weeks. Lots of fun and good memories.

What a great story!
Must have been a blast!
Thank you screefer! It was a blast! I had about 10 cassettes (state of the art back in the day!) the sound man recorded off the board.

They were all damaged in a storm that tore the roof off the garage. Oh well, I'm sure my memories of how we sounded were much better than the actual tapes.

At least it wasn't Raymond's last day with the band....at least I think!
