That dowel looks to me like kitchen paper!!!
Here's a method to calculate your neck angle.
Set your actual body flat on a table with the body resting on the arching, and the sides parallel with the table, Measure the distance from the edge of the sides to the table. Something like one half Inch. This is your arching height.
Next draw it out on paper.
Draw a straight line representing the flat edge of the body.
Given your scale length and your fret placement, draw the dimensions of your beam jig. The half inch dowel placement is twice the dimension from the nut to 12th Plus approximately 1/8 inch. Mark the 19th fret position on your beam.
Construct your actual jig then use it to draw lines on your paper drawing.
This paragraph is being edited because it was wrong. First mark a point the distance of your arching above your line and draw a parallel line So now you have two parallel lines the length of your body. From the start of your parallel lines, representing the neck to body joint, Draw a perpendicular line representing the body edge.
Take your actual jig, set it on your drawing with the 19th Fret placed at your body edge and the dowel tip placed on the top parallel line. Trace along the bottom of your beam.
This will give you the angle. Measure it or copy it. Then use it to cut your tenon.
I hope this is clear I will probably have to edit it. I dictated.
Things are coming along swimmingly in pupland. And yes, the magnets are translucent pink. The color is called "Keys to My Karma". LOL.
Into the wax they go tomorrow!
Open them up then. Don't be shy.
I did! But I'm flying back in four days, and can't really do anything with em now, so I don't really wanna unwrap it all, because the PUs are already nicely packed for travel. But look: not only the screws and springs, but Rob even kicked in the orange drops!
Thanks, Rob!! Very pleased and proud to be the latest member of the Barncaster Squad!
Yaaaay! New pickups!
And look, Rob has come to his senses about farad manipulation! Oh happy day! Modern plastical capacitors instead of sticky, dirty old PIO's! My endless and mindless badgering finally brought him around.
EDIT: with 4 whole days, you have plenty of time to throw together a test mule so we can hear the new pups! Just a thought.
Rick, I will have you know those Orange Drops are from an estate sale and are decades old. They are the real deal vs the green chicklets from sonic hell that Radio Shack used to sell. So there.
I hope you shook the box they were in to make sure there were no farads that had leaked out. You just never know with capacitors that old.
In case you didn't know, as ceramic caps age, the ceramic material becomes stronger and effectively much better at herding the electrons that flow through them into a form of sonic nirvana. Would you like to invest in my new cap company?
Well. I woulda used my cheap Chinese chicklets fer sure on this if Rob hadn't set me up with these, so thanks again!
Fly safe tomorrow Jup.
Thanks! I got one more day to pack and stuff; we'll be up at the crack of dawn Thursday morning. Got my Barncasters very securely packed already, though!
Yeeha, looking forward to this thread firing on all cylinders again, and to 4 pages of Jupiter figuring out where he left off!
What tool goodies did you pick up while here Jup?
Are you going to rename the thread to something like "Brainy's DPP Conflagration"?
I only have time to monitor the unofficial non-challenge threads.
But I'm here so............D'oh!
In other words: "how many times do you want to respray the sparkle?"
