During the rare times I've not been working in the last couple months, the weather has been too inclement to do much outside, so I've been resting, watching TV, and gaining weight .

I'd like to recommend two movies and one documentary series for the many members who enjoy pets and wildlife:

First, Dog Gone. Based on real life events, stars Rob Lowe and Kimberley Williams-Paisley (who is un underrated actress and will always be stunningly pretty). Their son, a college student who's slightly adrift in life, impulsively adopts a dog, who is grudgingly accepted by the family when he returns home with him. The dog is later lost in the wilderness on the Appalachian trail, needing medication within a few weeks, and the number of people who soon get involved in the search is heartwarming. The son seems at times impossibly clueless about how to keep a dog safe; but I guess a lot of us were in our youth. The movie is better than you'd expect.

Vicky and Her Mystery is a VERY well-overdubbed French film, also based on the true story of a young girl who befriends a gray wolf cub. What's really impressive about it is, there is no CGI. The wolves are real-- and trained to appear as they should at various ages, and all the actors had to be trained to interact with them. I read some interesting articles about the filming process.
The ending is predictable and bittersweet, but this movie is astonishingly good IMHO.

Now I'm into a documentary filmed about Vancouver Island, called Island of the Sea Wolves (otters and eagles and bears, oh my!). The scenery and animals are absolutely gorgeous, and it was done entirely with remote cameras so as not to disturb any of it. I'm about two episodes in and I'm mesmerized.

I suspect I'm like many of us, in that as I get older I think I'm even more animal- and especially dog-centric than I was as a kid. Shows like these three and countless others can turn me to mush, but they're worth it and I hope you will check them out.

I was just going to add Island of the sea wolves, absolutely brilliant programme.

I love animal shows!

My little dog Emmy Lou watches TV but does not like it when animals invade her TV screen. She's kind of a Diva and will bark up a storm when she sees other dogs, elephants, moose and horses, (she really hates horses!) I have to watch animal shows when she's either out of the room or asleep. Recently, I've got to quickly change the cannel when adds for the "Puppy Bowl" come on.

Thank you, but I have enough trying to cope with this old fella:

He is a senior cat, but still provides me with amusing kitten like play behaviour from time to time.
Of course, when he catches me laughing at him for that, he flashes his claws...

Thanks for the heads up.

I’ve seen two of the three but looking forward to Vicky and her Mystery.

There’s a 1/2 hour TV show on called Lucky Dog. It’s about a trainer in California that rescues a dog from the pound, trains it and puts it with a family that needs it. It’s a very heartwarming show imo and it’s broadcast on Sunday here in Texas.

I've been watching Lucky Dog for several years, and Brandon McMillan's methods are what I use for training...although I'm only able to spend a fraction of the time per day that pros do.

I've never gotten much into the newer version with the man and woman trainers; but the concept of the show is still the same.

Samsung TV has a channel dedicated to Lucky Dog; I hope it's always in the lineup.
