Boron, its the tricky one too much and your dead, too little and your dead. Its like vodka, but you can't drink it.

It's just further clear evidence that vikings kick ass over everything and everybody.
I'm in strong favor of it

Yep. Saw a segment on something about it years ago and apparently one of the reasons so little money was going into research was to do with the bad press of nuclear in general. Great shame as it sounds like it’s potentially much less risky.

Can't chain react/melt down; can't be weaponized; depleated, it's much less dangerous than uranium/plutonium.
    So what's the problem?
    Follow the money, as usual.
Very powerful people supply the uranium and plutonium and they lose a lot of dough if thorium flies.
I knew a guy from Cornell who had a start-up. He had a great company, great backers, world-changing product...it was like the movie Tucker...the big guns made sure it didn't fly. Damn sad.

Well, that and it's not prone to fission reactions. Just because it is a nuclear element does not mean it will work well for energy. Sawdust will burn, but nobody uses it for their car. Specific energy and energy density need to be right for the application it is being used for. Thorium just isn't.

That is what I gleaned from a bit of googling.

Spent nuclear powered thorium is only radioactive for 500 years instead of 10,000 years. That makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

I suppose we should not discuss about the associated open pit mining issues either.

We could just change our power consumption habits. Oh wait, that is way too inconvenient.o_O

Thor married Sif, a goddess of fertility.

Who would marry someone who was so horny they were bound to cheat on him hundreds, or even thousands of times?

    Idiot.

Thorium can be used in small pebble bed reactors to produce scalable power for anything from a large neighborhood (or office complex) to small towns/cities on up. It is also feasible for use in NERVA type rocket engines that could be light enough for ground based launch.

I thought it was named after Thor Hiney, brother of Big Red Hiney.

...they ran the Hiney Winery in beautiful downtown Euless, Texas...the only wine available in a pulltab can.

    Don't forget Wednesday. Woden's Day.

My lazy Brit ancestors didn't pronounce anything correctly if it originated with another country.
