    Dredging up memories...
I had a friend in high school, '68, that hung out with my band, helped with equipment.
He played accordion in a polka band and boy could he play.
He was the only person I knew with a tat,
and 'Surprise, Surprise!,' he came out.
None of us had a clue he was gay.
He just disappeared and hung out with a whole new crowd.
He was still welcome in our group but he decided on the change.
    Sigh...

Nope, but it's just as dumb as it's always been.

Everyone knows the song, but I don't get it, it's not funny. Stale joke?

1958 in the USA must have been better than in Germany. I am born that year. And the early 60ies where very grey here.

Yeah, clearly you didn’t get it.
Well, you see, the thread title is “This Woman Lives Everyday Like It’s 1958” and I’m attempting to make a kind of connection with a bit of similar wordplay and that’s why I introduced the lyric from Prince’s song “1999”.

And, well, I’m counting on the fact that everyone knows the lyric. Now, a regular person is supposed to get that link and draw a parallel between it and the thread title, not get their panties in a wad for some unknown reason.

it’s not meant to draw guffaws, merely a slight chuckle if I’m lucky. However, if you were paying for higher comedy, I would have spent more time constructing something much funnier and fresher and not so hard for you to “get”.

if you run into any other jokes or quips from me that you just don’t understand, holler at me and I’ll be happy as a clam to explain them to you.

Aw heck, you know what “happy as a clam” means, right?

If anyone has ever priced out some of those appliances recently, all I can say is that they are very well off.

    Good for them.

Just to be clear, my point in the above post was that I would like to live each day as if it were 1958. And, by that, I mean NO post-1958 technology. Especially personal computers, the Internet, and cell phones. A pox on all those evil devices!

My wife came across a new video by someone who looks just like this lady, showing how she does her hair. It’s pretty tedious to watch but it has a strange appeal. But she has lots of tats, so I’m thinking it’s not the same girl.

Good for them. Better than drowning in an onyx rectangle walking into oncoming traffic. How far we have come.
