    Exactly the Same
    copyright 2021 Gary Worsham

Inspired by my friend Steve. Something he said. Not his guitar solos.

    slow bluesy feel
also works in uptempo early Bob Dylan style

I was (E) jamming in my basement on a (A) song that had no name
I (E) thought I was inspired by an (B) inner mounting flame
    But (A) when I listened (B) back, I dis(E)covered to my (A) shame
    (A) All of my (B) guitar (A) solos sound (B) ex (A) actly the (E) same

    (3 or 4 guitar solos)

My fingers are going places as if I had no aim
My playing is a crime, but I think that I was framed
I tried taking lessons so I don’t know who to blame
All of my guitar solos sound exactly the same

    (3 or 4 guitar solos)

I was jamming in my basement on a song that had no name
I thought I was inspired by an inner mounting flame
My fingers were in the taxi but my mind was in baggage claim
All of my guitar solos sound exactly the same

    ........... not an autobiography ??
Pretty good for 30 minutes. Now just 20 hours to fine tune and polish. Feels like it needs an outro/bridge, or perhaps chorus.

Yes, erm... there may be some auto biographical elements there as well. :p

Feel free to add, you can get co-writer credit. I was thinking short and sweet on this one, but could go either way.

You're there, man! A god! And all those gratuitous solos are the perfect touch.

HA ha ha .... thought so.

    How about for an outro:

So we took that song with no name to the stage
But instead of being flung tomatoes and rage
The crowd showered us with flowers and praise
Although all my solos still sound exactly the same

(That's about 5 minutes of effort)
Don't forget fade-out with guitar solo for a few minutes.

    OK, you're hired.

    Here's a middle 8.

    (A) Now I can play "Day Tripper"
    and (E) "Pretty Woman", too
But (F#) what key'd you say this song was in?
    (B) What'm I s'posed to do?

(start playing lick to Day Tripper/Oh, Pretty Woman)
    ================================
    Next questions @kbold -
    a) Do you have any recording equipment?
    b) Want to collaborate on a recording with me doing most of the work unless you want to do most of the work? I use Ableton Live 10.

I figured I'd try to get multiple people to add guitar solos because:
    - then they probably wouldn't sound the same
    - if Greg Koch hears about it he's bound to want to get in on this action

    :D

    DL

I think a few fade outs with sneaky fade-back-ins might be extra annoying. Then again, maybe save that for the B-side.

OK we're at 40 minutes now

I was jamming in my basement on a song that had no name
I got hooked on pentatonics and I was feeling pretty lame
My fingers were in the taxi but my mind was in baggage claim
All of my guitar solos sound exactly the same

We took that basement song with no name to the stage
But instead of being pelted with tomatoes, shoes and rage
The crowd they showered us with flowers and acclaim
Even though all my solos still sound exactly the same

    (more guitar solos/fade)

OK, let's get our bearings here. You should know that left to my own devices, I will take a LONG time to complete this song unless I just fling it together and don't stress out about the 20% that takes 80% of the time. The hired string section, Sam Bush, etc. may have to take a pass this time around. Ableton lets me quickly build something up out of loops.

I am thinking that I can contribute any of the following:
Drum part built up mostly from blues patterns in "XLN Addictive Drums"
    A real bass part
A real basic rhythm guitar part
    Guitar fills
    Vocals
Any number of solos that sound exactly the same. If there are going to be a lot of them I would just count one time through the verse. As Spinal Tap reminds us, "there's a fine line between clever and stupid".

So far, this song has 2 different parts: the verses, and a brief middle 8. Should the middle 8 appear again with same/different words? There is already a chorus effect from the repeated line so we can probably do without a separate chorus.

Also I threw in a little extra riff going from E to D in between verses.

I haven't quite figured out the tempo. Give me a few days to come up with a basic track for your review.

If we both use Ableton Lite, it would be an interesting exercise as that limits you to 8 tracks IIRC. I have Ableton "Intro" version here as well.
