I wouldn't call that "discolored" - it is just natural wood. It's the color it is, and you see that kind of thing in most any board you pick up in a fancy lumberyard. I think they ought to dye the really streaky ones like that. But it's better than the old practice of just throwing away all the rosewood and ebony board that had any streaking in them.

Nothing wrong with it. Some people like that. Different strokes for different folks.

Common for that type of ebony, heartwood vs sapwood.

They're listening to Bob Taylor about not wasting precious ebony, where 90% of it used to be left on the forest floor to rot because it wasn't perfectly black.

Id rock that, the guitar manufactures should have put some marketing bs out about how good a figured piece of ebony is. Id rather have a figured piece of wood over something that is "perfect" it looks nicer.

@DougM has it here - I like the idea of ebony on fingerboards, but not if 9/10 of the trees are left to rot on jungle floors.

    Peace - Deeve

I like variation - my elite has a knot in the body which I think is too cool.

I like it as is, but I'd probably dye it.

It looks like half of the dark chocolate board was dipped in peanut butter.

Not my cup of tea (or Reece’s peanut butter cup) but it’s good not to waste Ebony and many people here seem to like it.

It’s definitely not a mistake and there are lots of other options.

I'm also seeing it on rosewood board Fenders too. There's a Performer Strat at my local dealer that has a mostly dark board with one real light streak down the treble side, very similar to this guitar.

Just like people, wood comes in all colors. And just like people, all the different colors of wood are fully capable of making some fine music. I don't see a problem here, but YMMV.
