This has probably been done to death but what's your got to distortion/ gain pedal?

Lately for me it’s been picking harder and letting the amp do the work. I’ve found that I only really like dist/od pedals into an already distorted amp like a Marshall. Relying on the pedal itself for either just doesn’t sound good to me anymore.

    None!

Never have liked the sound of any OD or distorted guitar sounds. Guess that saves me from being on an endless (and expensive) life long search. In fact I use no pedals other than a Boss FRV-1 reverb pedal for a couple amps I have that have no reverb.

I keep a TS9 on my board, but it has to go into an already dirty amp to get the sound I really like.

Mind-blowing how many people insist on chiming in to every last thread on the Stomp Box forum to say they don’t use pedals.

I gig 100% acoustic now... but when I was gigging electric regularly there were two pedals I never left home without:
    1) My Analog man modded BD-2
    2) DOD 8 Band EQ pedal.

Bought a ZVex Box of Rock last year, haven’t even browsed others since. It’s a nice plexi sound, and the boost side is a bonus!

I don't use pedals. I also don't watch TV, only eat gluten free keto and do cross-fit.

    But seriously...

Here are the two overdrive/distortion pedals I use...

JHS Angry Charlie. Huge gain range and a 3-band EQ. Essentially its a Crunch Box with a Baxandall tone stack.

Boss OD3, the only overdrive I use. Doesn't have a huge range of sounds but does what I need for classic rock etc

Used to be an SD1, now it's a Soul Food. Preferably I'd combine both.

JHS Morning Glory for boost, and I’ve been experimenting with a Fender Pugilist for distortion. Got the Pugilist for cheap and it’s been impressive.

I don't use a lot of distortion or overdrive. I play mostly clean surfy/rockabilly or travis picking kind of stuff..BUT when I do use dirt for heavier stuff, I almost always use a Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion. I've had it for ever, maybe 15 years. Definitely my "Go To dirt pedal".
Just used to the tones it has I guess, but I've tried and have several OD's, Fuzzes and Distortions and honestly always go back to the DS-2.

Lately though, my EHX Soul food is getting a little more play, but I use it pretty subtle; just a light push once in awhile.

For honorable mention, sometimes when I want to rock hard and silly; I use a little danelectro French Toast octave distortion (just a fun pedal!) or a old Danelectro Fab Metal.

Like I said, I don't play much distortion or high gain or overdriven tones these days, but I stand by saying that the Fab Metal is a real sleeper that can be had dirt cheap. Really, IMO, one of the best cheapy pedals you can score..

It is my version 2 Analogman “King of Tone”. It has yet to be dethroned off my board since getting it in 2004.
