This combination should sound like crap, but it's the best tone I've heard in a long time.

It's a Marshall Code 100 modeling amp head through what used to be a Monoprice combo amp, but the amp took a dump and it is now just a speaker cabinet. I bought the cabinet today off of Craigslist because I was planning on buying one of those DIY tube amp kits. But I plugged the Marshall into it just to make sure the speaker works, and the tone has been blowing me away. I have the amp set on the "American clean" setting, which I guess is based on a Fender, with the preamp cranked to give it a little bit of dirt. This thing is oozing vintage tube tone, somehow. I don't know what kind of speaker they put in those Monoprice combos, but whatever it is, it's a perfect match for that head.

Very  it’s nice when the magic happens. Especially when you’re not expecting it. :D

That beauty of a gretsch probably isn't hurting anything ;)

Yeah, that's an old Pro Jet that I put HS Filtertron pickups into. Had to break out the Dremel to make that work.

Monoprice puts Celestion speakers in a lot of their stuff. No idea which particular one might be in this cab, though.

That's where it gets weird; I think they were supposed to be Celestion 70/80's, but this one is unmarked and has a red metal frame. No labeling whatsoever and the 70/80's I've seen in the past were not red.

How do those Codes sound in their own cabs/ speakers? I've never tried one, but there was a sale price on the small one recently.

What do you have written on that sticker on the top edge of your Gretsch?

Oh, that's my last set list. Cheat sheet. Sometime I put capo positions and keys on there also.

I didn't purchase the matching cab, but from what I hear, it is really tuned to this particular amp. By that I mean that it does not sound good with other amps, and other cabs don't sound that great with this amp. Except for this odd Monoprice former 15W amp that is now a 1X12 cab, apparently.

Some serious duct tape action & you got a nice combo again.

Gotta go with what works! I used to hook my 5 watt monoprice tube amp up to a Jensen I put in an old peavey combo and it sounded great! I should have put it together as a combo

I would like to have heard this Monoprice cab when it still had an amplifier in it. But whatever, it still looks great as a speaker cabinet.
