That's the kind of wood you'd split to fire up the barbie down here.....

She's a beauty, must be great looking down with the contrast between side and top. Hope it plays as good as it looks!

Really though, can you tell us about the wood? Was it oily? How does it resonate?

Not oily at all, and it 'tapped' OK, but nothing special. I don't really put a lot of stock in that when it comes to electrics but the Sapele body and neck would be the main drivers of any particular tone IMO. It has a very lively acoustic sound and really sounds good plugged in, but that's mainly the P-90s, which are hard to go wrong with. Got everything from Tele quack to near archtop jazz tones available at the flick of the switch and a roll of the tone knob.

I hope it plays as well for you as it looks to us!

I'm not a much a a standard tuning player (I play open and slide 99% of the time) but I've run it past a couple pretty good players and they liked it very much. We found a couple buzzes so I need to do a bit of leveling. Nothing had been done to it since I carved the neck years ago. I have 9s on it (after getting a few opinions on string gauges...I play flat wound 12s :p ) but feel like it would play and sound even better with 10s.

Appreciate all the nice compliments, feels good to be back building again.

Great outcome for such a long wait.........a really beautiful instrument.

My only comment is that I would have just run a little oil on my finger around the inside of the F-hole just to highlight that beautiful grain through the top thickness.

    Just magnificent!!!
