Ah the famous scene of Nigel Tufnel about his amps going to 11, "That's one louder, innit?"

Now most references to that scene are of course done in music, even Michael Jackson referenced it in his "Black or White" video where the dial of a guitar amps says "Loud", "Louder" and "Are you nuts?!"

But let's talk about instances where it is referenced to in something other than just music.

Aardman Animation is a well known British Studio who have produced the series of "Wallace and Gromit", "Chicken run" and have worked with Dreamworks and made the groundbreaking music video for Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer"

Aardman has a series called "Shaun the sheep" which is a stop animation series about a very smart and resourceful sheep. In one episode Shaun gets out a strat and an amp that goes "one louder" to cure a fellow sheep's hiccups.

In a recent episode of Top Gear, the guys reviewed the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento - noted for its light weight and the fact the tachometer goes up to 11. They even mention Spinal Tap.

the BBC Iplayer volume control goes to 11. - I like it, subtle.

Doctor Who has it all over the place, sonic-ing various bits of alien tech and "turning them up to 11" It almost gets as old as "reverse the polarity"

Pretty sure my Peavey Classic 20 amp goes up to 12. It's in storage, so I haven't seen it lately, but - that's one louder, right?

12 is 2 louder. most Fender amps go to 12. 13 would be one louder on a Fender.
