If you could only have one guitar, and it had to be either a Tele, a Strat or a Les Paul, what would it be and why?

    ...and go!

If I were still gigging I'd say a Tele.

But now I just play at home things are different. I've been using strats with floating whammys a LOT the last 5 years....but that recently has become less important.
I've actually been playing my LP style guitars the most lately. I sit and play on the sofa thru a Roland JC22 and the feel and sound of a Les Paul seems to suit me.

So my choice would be a Les Paul.

    Hmmmm.
    They all have their charms.
For gigging, I’d say the Tele.
    For recording, the Strat.
    For rockin’, the Paul.
    Hmmmm.
What do I do for a living?
    Oh yeah, the TELE!

Since other people are breaking the rules I don't feel so bad saying flying v. They lend themselves to playing in 'proper position' and now everything else feels weird to me. Spandex goes out of style, but pointy guitars are eternal.

Given the improbably scenario, and the choice of just those three, the choice is easy for me. (And it's not because this is a Telecaster web forum, and I'm trying to make everybody happy.)

    The telecaster.

For the kind of music that I play, and that which our band is expected to perform, the telecaster is the obvious choice.

    It's versatile.
It's simple. (Less moving parts, less chance of things going wrong.)
    Classic good looks.
    Comfortable ergonomics.
Satisfying to hold and to strap on for long sets.
Built like a tank, you can't kill it.

With a tele I can deliver Hank Williams, Hank Marvin,
    David Bowie, Dave Grohl,
    James Taylor, James Hetfield,
    George Thorogood, George Harrison,
    Johnny Cash, Johnny Nash,
    Rush, Mahogany Rush,
    Chrissie Hynde, Chris Stapleton,
and Dan Fogelberg or Steely Dan, and it all sounds fantastic.

    :)

I’ve always gigged predominantly with a Tele, then a Strat became the second guitar.
Now those days are past, I find that at home it’s a Strat I play day to day.

Tele, no contest. I don't even like LPs or strats.

But if I could only have one guitar it would always be my 50s Baja.

With the material we are currently playing/recording it would have to be my Tele. But my God, I would miss my Strat.

    .

    A Tele can do everything.

Drop a 4-way switch in there and use the knobs. ...

More than a few famous songs were recorded with Teles that were later stage performed with Strats and Les Pauls. Has it ever been done the other way around? Teles on stage after recording with Strats and LPs?

My heavily modified 82' strat. I have several great teles, but I would really miss the smooth action of the tremolo/vibrato on this old black workhorse.
