... you can only buy one of these albums.

    Which is it and why?

    [IMG][IMG]

And play the game properly, none of this "neither" crap.

    OR "both".

    -sorry Lucius. I'm bored tonight.

Clearly Lee Ritenour... I mean, I had no idea Johnny Galecki even put out an album.

Not at all my favorite era for jazz guitar.
    I’m more of a Breau/Kessel/Pass (60s) kinda guy.
I love Carlton, but I like his 70s stuff best.

OK, this is a trick question. Everybody knows jazz was dead by the ‘80s.

    Ill, not dead.
    It recovered.
It’s still not 100%, but it’s no longer ailing.
    Just my opinion.

My dad loved jazz, but I never heard of these guys. But then his tastes were old school.

George Benson - Collaboration with Earl Klugh was also 1987. Not pure Jazz but close enough for my simple tastes.

i wouldn't call either of those jazz. in the same way you wouldn't call rock "blues." sure, maybe, "derived from jazz," but not jazz.

if you want good jazz from the 80s scope hal russell/NRG ensemble or henry threadgill.

personally i never understood why people shunned free jazz or free elements, which while somewhat of a departure still retains the core spirit/aesthetic of jazz while moving forward. but on the other hand, everyone was perfectly okay with fusion going off the rails by the late 70s and turning it into some monstrosity that is hardly recognizable as jazz.

These both came out in 1987. This is what I would pick. Scofield in my mind is better than Carlton and Ritenour.
